Have you ever seen house with a side or a corner of it being completely over grown with vines and than said that looks cute. It will come in no surprise to you that those vines are slowly damaging your exterior. Vines are not the only vegetation that can be harmful to your home. Tree branches and bushes can bring a tremendous amount of damage to your property.
Those pesky vines may look charming and cozy but in reality they cling on to your siding such as masonry based. On block or brick vines will dig in and eventually cause the masonry to spall (deteriorate). In the warm months it will also shelter a variety of pests. Vines near your AC unit can also cause damage and decrease it's performance.
Tree branches and bushes can cause similar damage. An overhanging tree will provide shade for your roof and allow it to grow moss. Falling branches can even damage the roof materials. Other debris will clog up your gutters. Lastly carpenter ants which cause similar damage as termites often use branches as their highways to your house.
In conclusion this look is not worth the damage. So pick up some shears and take care of it this spring before they grow even further.
